Wolff's Diner, a 1940s diner with a factory built kitchen, hasn't served a meal in a decade. And, if not for some fast action by some diner enthusiasts, it would have been demolished. The diner and an adjacent motel, located on US Route 4 in Stillwater, NY near Saratoga National Historical Park and Saratoga National Cemetery, were purchased by Doug Dyer in 1999 with plans to reopen. Dyer died before his plans were realized, and his widow, wanting the long-vacant buildings out of the way, contacted a wrecking company. With the clock ticking on the diner's life, Mike Engle notified the American Diner Museum, which led to the diner being sold on Ebay. Eric Schulte, the new owner, plans to restore the diner and reopen it in Texas. But first, the diner needs to be moved off its site, a job for veteran diner mover Mel Brandt.

October 22, 2004: The debris has been removed and the land regraded- the diner is gone without a trace (above left.) However, it didn't get very far on the long journey to Texas: the diner was involved in a traffic accident that afternoon in Saratoga Springs, NY (about 10 miles away.) The sidelined diner rests in the parking lot of Saratoga Performing Arts Center (above right), awaiting repairs to the truck before resuming the trip.
